eNerd feat. Ben Neill & Luca Kézdy - Bartók Update 2.0 trailer

Bartók’s compositional methods are in many regards similar to those of the latest electronic music. How would Bartók work if he had access to today’s technology? Joining forces with violinist Luca Kézdy and trumpeter Ben Neill (USA), eNerd3 offers answers to this exciting question of music and technology not with simple electronic arrangements of Bartók.

In other words, the concert programme is not limited to reconsiderations of Bartók’s works, but also includes the embedding of the composer’s original recordings of collected folk music in new compositions. These phonograph recordings often served as the starting points of Bartók’s own works. The project focuses on his least known field recordings, which he made in North-Africa in 1913.

Endre-eNerd demoes the Pearl Mimic PRO at the Budapest Modern Drum Camp

I made a quick demo of the Pearl Mimic PRO drum module at the Budapest Modern Drum Camp on 29 March. The goal of the performance was to demonstrate how well the Mimic PRO can replace an acoustic kit in real life gigging situation. The result was more than satisfying and I was really happy to see that Pearl Corporation embraced the video of this performance, shared it on their facebook page and asked me to become a member of their beta tester group. Great.

 Endre-eNerd³ - Caravan

The Caravan video was a one-off project. The idea came from Tam-Tam Music Center, who are the local distributors of Turkish Cymbals. They wanted to make a video featuring their three major endorsers.

This was one of the most interesting projects in my life. I took swing legend Imre Kőszegi (71) -recovering from a serious shoulder injury- and fellow drummer Zoltán Farkas to the studio and give Juan Tizol's classic tune a new, "eNerdized" meaning. I'm very proud I could persuade Imre to play some electronic music for the first time and that he really enjoyed it.

Also, this was the debut of "MegaTap", a finger drum and MIDI controller I built.

Tune-By-Tune Demonstrations of The Time Capsule

These clips demonstrate the most important building blocks of the tunes and show some examples of their on-stage use.

Over Earth

"The 20th century was the century of aviation. Over Earth is dedicated to the pioneers whose work made it possible to realize one of the oldest dreams of mankind."

"In this piece I have a number of melodic and rhythmic loops and some one shot samples..."

Dictators' Truth

"Even the darkest, bloodiest and most disgraceful times in history were heralded as huge achievements, great victories and times of unprecedented prosperity by the leaders who caused them. This is the dictators' truth."

"From a technological point of view this is an old school tune with a set of loops and sound fx and samples from all documentaries."

The Time Capsule

"The desire for leaving a legacy for the distant future has always been an intrinsic characteristic of human nature. Most creative efforts of men serve as time capsules for passing on thoughts, experiences and emotions to future generations. This piece was inspired by the works of Raymond Scott, pianist, inventor, electronic music pioneer."

"It features a vocoder line and a vocoder solo. Vocoders have been around for several years, but with the exception of Tony Verderosa I don't know of too many drummers who actually use them."

Parallel Worlds

"This is a piece about the constant battle between good and evil. Parallel worlds surround us and we never know when we'll find ourselves on the other side..."

"They are represented by two sets of loops: a heavenly arpeggiated one... and really nasty ugly one and they literally run in parallel and I can randomly switch over from one to the other..."

Joe's Long Trip To Hungaristan

"This is an improvised piece that we played at the Joe Zawinul memorial day at the Budapest Palace of Arts. It features some voice samples of Joe in which he remembers his Hungarian ancestors."

"This tune is an exception in many ways, because this is the only one that doesn't have pre-recorded building blocks as all loops are played on two Korg Wavedrums and are recorded on the fly to Live and then we jam over the recorded bits."
